Can you blog about Advertising in today’s world vs. advertising & marketing in the 70s and 80s. is easy…We’ve got it made! We have different resources for reaching our audience right at our fingertips. All we have to do is create the right message. How did agencies function without email, Wikipedia, on-line language translation, Twitter or Facebook?
The great guru of the age, one of the original “Mad Men,” David Ogilvy, would have been right at home with data moving at the speed of light. For all of the clever jingles, ground-breaking images and wild parties in advertising’s boom, Ogilvy said, “ I do not regard advertising as entertainment or an art form, but as a medium of information.”
And that’s the business we’re in today – if we try to sell without information, we make empty promises, and the consumer sees right through the ruse.
