esd and associates has long taken the health and wellness of employees seriously, recently earning the Gold Recognition in the 2013 Healthy Workplace Recognition Program (HWRP).
The San Antonio Business Group on Health (SABGH) created the Healthy Workplace Recognition Program in collaboration with the Mayor’s Fitness Council to promote local employers’ efforts toward a healthy workforce. The HWRP assesses employee wellness programs in the areas of organizational culture, health promotion and education, physical activity, nutrition, smoking and tobacco use, and health benefits design.
Among other healthy activities, esd organizes company bike rides and reimburses employees for entry fees to official 5K runs, triathlons, and cycling races, prompting many to develop and advance their own personal fitness goals. Erik Simpson, founding partner, cycles to the office almost daily, and Jennie Simpson, graphic designer, has completed two 5Ks, a half-marathon and triathlon.
esd employees also play an active role in promoting and volunteering with the Fit Family Challenge, a 12-week summer program designed to motivate families to get active, eat better, and learn about health and fitness. Now in its fourth year, Fit Family Challenge is funded through a grant from the Kronkosky Charitable Foundation and support from key corporate and civic partners.
The SABGH partners with the Mayor’s Fitness Council to improve the health of the San Antonio workforce and provide the business community with opportunities to network, discuss best practices, and promote worksite wellness initiatives.
