esd bn sendero 150thCentral Texas’s only local, non-profit health insurance provider recently surpassed the century mark as Sendero Health Plans enrolled its 150th member in the Health Insurance Marketplace, CEO David Lamkin announced.
Austinite Mark Morrow signed up for a silver plan using www.HealthCare.gov with no problems. “I chose Sendero because it was the most economical and had the best benefits of all the plans,” said Morrow, Sendero’s 100th ACA enrollee.
After selecting his plan, Morrow said he discovered Sendero Health Plans is both local and nonprofit, which “made it all the more attractive.” Morrow, an accounting intern, says he doesn’t have health insurance now and feels “vulnerable” but, as of the first of January, that will change.
“My mind will be at ease if something goes wrong,” he said. “I’ve been healthy. Hopefully, I won’t need it, but it will be very comforting to know it is there.”
Citing the low deductible, paired with inexpensive copays for doctor’s visits and prescriptions, new members praise Sendero’s IdealCare as a great program for everyone from young professionals to parents in large families.
Sendero’s first enrollee in the Health Insurance Marketplace said the same. Austin graphic artist Kat Richards, who met with U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius last October, tells her Sendero success story on YouTube.
With Sendero’s IdealCare program, Morrow says he was able to find coverage that previously was out of reach.
“We’re proud of the impact we’re having by providing medical insurance to so many who’ve never been covered before,” added Lamkin. “Sendero is the best option for Central Texans seeking value from a trusted nonprofit created by and for Austin-area taxpayers.”
Sendero Health Plans is the only homegrown, nonprofit organization offering affordable health insurance in Austin and surrounding areas as part of the Affordable Care Act.
