San Antonio is taking on Houston in a battle to shed the pounds with the help of a responsive website designed by leading digital marketing agency esd and associates.
The YMCA of Greater San Antonio joined H-E-B and Mayor Julián Castro to announce the campaign through the FitCitySA.com website during a March 4 press conference.
“We’ve issued a challenge to Houston that San Antonio will lose at least a million pounds together,” Mayor Castro. “And we believe we can get healthier and more active and beat them, the way that the Spurs beat the Rockets.”
Sponsored by H-E-B and YMCA of Greater San Antonio, the Million Pound Challenge features a registration page at www.FitcitySA.com, where Alamo City residents can sign up to participate.
The Million Pound Challenge will run throughout 2014 and invites all community members to join. Residents can create a profile, share weight loss and help San Antonio lose a million pounds.
“We designed the site as a fun and simple way for individuals to track their workout goals,” said Erik Simpson, esd’s chief creative director. “As a company that celebrates health and wellness, we are proud to be part of this community fitness initiative.”
The web-based registration system allows participants to complete a survey of fitness activity then track progress over time. It includes a tracking chart with activities ranging from easy exercises such as walking and swimming to more strenuous activities such as zumba, elliptical, running and cycling.
FitCitySA.com, also designed by esd and associates, provides information and resources for health and wellness through the Mayor’s Fitness Council.
In addition to the website, the community can register for the Million Pound Challenge at Síclovía on March 30 and numerous events around town.
