Digital marketing firm loves healthy hearts

While exploring ways to enhance its award-winning wellness program for 2014, esd & associates learned about the American Heart Association – San Antonio’s free healthy workplace initiatives.

In March, esd began participating in the association’s Check. Change. Control. program, which enables employees to monitor blood pressure while taking healthy steps toward improving heart health through the company’s existing fitness and wellness activities.

Through Check. Change. Control.esd employees can monitor their very own blood pressure at no cost on a weekly basis in the office. The team is also participating in educational health seminars through the American Heart Association – San Antonio.

“This has become an integral part of our wellness initiative, creating another way for our valued employees to stay healthy,” said Erik Simpson, esd’s chief creative officer.

By recording their blood pressure readings, weight, activities, medications and other factors at www.Heart360.org, participants can track their health at the secure Microsoft® HealthVault™.

“Check. Change. Control. is showing great results in helping individuals start and maintain a healthy blood pressure plan,” said Lisa Cruz, Executive Director of the American Heart Association – San Antonio. “The participation of companies like esd & associates in our health and fundraising programs is critical to helping us achieve our 2020 goal of increasing the heart health of all Americans by 20 percent. Employee wellness affects a company’s fiscal health, and we applaud employers who recognize that keeping their employees healthy is good business and good for the community.”

To further its commitment to healthy hearts in the workplace, esd recently made a financial commitment by sponsoring a table at the American Heart Association – San Antonio’s Heart of Gold Gala on April 5. The event set a fundraising record, breaking a goal of more than $1 million.

This was the 30th anniversary event and esd was proud to be part of it as a sponsor and a participant.

Heart disease is America’s number one killer, added Simpson, a two-time Iron Man finisher. “It’s responsible for almost 30 percent of deaths here in the San Antonio area.”

esd has focused on health and fitness from its beginning. Last year, the San Antonio Business Journal and Humana named esd & associates one of San Antonio’s Healthiest Employers.  The San Antonio Business Group on Health and the Mayor’s Fitness Council in 2013 also awarded esd its second gold ranking in the Healthy Workplace Recognition Program.

A healthy workplace benefits both the individual and the organization,” added Christine Kleha, CEO of esd & associates. “People are happier and have fewer sick days while lowering their own insurance costs.”
