SAN ANTONIO – The award-winning digital marketing firm known for providing wellness to its own employees is making a big difference in the Alamo City’s access to health and wellness thanks to its development of the Fit Pass App. Download here.
Launched June 13 at the Super Sports Fanatic 5K event at LBJ Park, the Fit Pass App is a San Antonio Parks & Recreation initiative designed to encourage the public to participate in the many free health and wellness events during summer months.
It is among numerous mobile apps developed by esd & associates, including an emergency room wait time app for Methodist Healthcare System and the Million Pound Challenge app developed for FitCitySA.com and YMCA of Greater San Antonio.
“Almost everything is digital nowadays and people live off their phones,” said Michael Baldwin at the Parks Department. “As an expansion of the phone, an app quickly becomes part of life and even provides some instant gratification.”
Public participation in Fit Pass increased 40 percent after esd designed the new Fit Pass Passport, a printed handbook, in 2014. For the 2015 edition, participants will be able to continue using the printed Fit Pass booklet – also designed by esd – in addition to the mobile app on iOS devices. The Fit Pass App keeps track of participants’ Fit Pass scores and helps plan events and sends notifications.
“Our user experience team designed the Fit Pass App with a focus on helping the Parks and Recreation Department create a tool that is convenient and simple to use, much like the printed booklet,” said Erik Simpson, esd’s chief creative officer.
Fit Pass 2015 is a free, interactive, fitness scavenger hunt, taking place from June 13 to September 12, 2015. It challenges San Antonians to live healthier, stay fit, and get to know their city! Health and wellness is a specialty for esd and the clients it serves. Between 2010 and 2013, esd played an active role in developing the Fit Family Challenge, a 12-week summer program designed to motivate families to get active, eat better, and learn about health and fitness. The city’s largest digital marketing firm took on the YMCA of Greater San Antonio’s fitness event Síclovía in 2013. The firm earned an “Addy” award for its 2014 “Síclovía Kicks” campaign, which increased awareness of the event by engaging local artists, schools, corporate partners and the public to decorate fitness shoes.
The award-winning efforts to get people out and moving included developing the “Síclovía Safety Pledge” campaign in spring 2015. Later this year, esd will join with the Office of Sustainability in promoting bicycle safety.
