San Antonio — There are deals for Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Now, there’s a deal for those who want to give the gift of philanthropy over the holiday season. #GivingTuesday is a global effort that uses the power of social media to maximize the fundraising efforts of nonprofits.

The Alamo City Cancer Council (ACCC) hopes San Antonio will join the rest of the world in supporting #GivingTuesday by helping the organization assist cancer patients and survivors in the greater San Antonio area.

“This is an exciting opportunity for us – and for our wonderful donors,” said ACCC spokeswoman Gretchen Garceau-Kragh. “After a full weekend of BOGO’s and half-off deals for themselves, San Antonians now get the chance to double down on helping their fellow citizens fight cancer.”

During the month of December, an anonymous donor will match all donations up to $5,000, so the public can donate directly to the Cancer Council on Giving Tuesday or anytime until Dec. 31 to help the organization meet a fundraising goal of $10,000 for the month.

The public can also show support on social media with the hashtag #GivingTuesday and tagging social media accounts Facebook.com/AlamoCityCancerCouncil and @alamoccc on Twitter.

“It doesn’t snow in San Antonio very often, but we’re hoping for an avalanche of support on Tuesday,” added Garceu-Kragh. “Every hashtag, every dollar, every like and share we get helps us fight cancer in the Alamo City.”
