| Social & Health Research Center’s Bienestar Health Program
The Bienestar Health Program was established with the desire to improve the well-being of populations at risk for diabetes. Run by the Social & Health Research Center, it has served the San Antonio Independent School District community for over 10 years. This non-profit organization educates children about healthy eating and encourages a decrease in fat intake and an increase in fruits, vegetables and physicial activity. The overall goal is to prevent obesity in children. For the Center, esd & associates created a series of 14 Spanish-English educational books called “Healthy Heroes.” The development of Bienestar heroes and educational materials help guide children through the steps of healthy living. The translation was done, by medical professionals, to ensure students and teachers could understand the material in both languages. These books were published in 2004 and revamped in 2006 by esd & associates and MacMillian/McGraw-Hill Publishing in New York, to be distributed to school districts across the country. |
