University Health System
University Health System is the community’s hospital, reliant on taxpayer support for their funding. When the hospital made the decision to rebrand, it was a commitment to change public perception to ensure continued public support for their services. Citing our “unique perspective, ” the system enlisted esd. Over the course of several months, esd met with the diverse community of stakeholders, performed a wayfinding analysis, studied the competitive market, and gathered public opinion. The resulting work not only created an identity that affiliated the system with its sister institution (UT Health Science Center San Antonio), but applied the new identity and research to communication materials throughout the system, a massive wall display showcasing their history and value to the community, an hr campaign strengthening employee commitment and other communications efforts. The result? By increasing awareness of the “need” for a public health care system to taxpayers, the hospital system has received increased taxpayer funding and support for Capital expenditures to improve facilities.
