San Antonio – Nonprofit Community First Health Plans has developed a mobile app in conjunction with the YMCA of Greater San Antonio to promote the FitCitySA.com Million Pound Challenge presented by H-E-B as a fun and simple way to stay fit and healthy this summer.
President and CEO Greg Gieseman introduced the app during a July 10 press conference attended by media and members of the Mayor’s Fitness Council at the DR Semmes Family YMCA @ TriPoint.
“As part of our mission, we strive to find ways to help our members and the community as a whole to live healthy lives,” Gieseman said. “We developed the app as a free and simple way to track your health. Plus, it lets you join a team to motivate each other along the way.”

City Council Members Ron Nirenberg, Shirley Gonzales and Mike Gallagher spoke at the press event about the important role of fitness as the city works to lower its obesity rate.

Launched in February, the Million Pound Challenge website allows San Antonians to participate in a friendly competition against Houston to collectively lose 1 million pounds by November. As of July 15, San Antonio residents have lost more than 112,000 pounds, compared to about 12,000 pounds lost by Houston residents.
“The app is another way to drive engagement as more people access the web via mobile apps than desktop computers,” added Gieseman.
