SAN ANTONIO – Hundreds of nonprofits in a 12-county region are celebrating Cinco de Mayo while working toward a goal of raising $4 million to fund local programs during The Big Give S.A.
In addition to the online contributions, 883 area nonprofits will be vying for $713,250 in cash prizes. The prizes can be won in a variety of ways.
“Some nonprofits have targeted certain hours for giving,” said Scott McAninch, Big Give S.A. organizer. “Others have their own matching fund challenges or on-site events. It’s best you check with your favorite cause to see how your donation can do the most good.”
“Log onto www.thebiggivesa.org to donate to the charities that champion causes that matter to you,” said Erik Simpson, chief creative officer of esd & associates, a sponsor of The Big Give S.A. “This event does so much to not only raise funds for nonprofits, but to increase awareness of their programs, challenges and goals for the year.”

Use hash tag #BigGiveSA and #GiveLocal15 to see what nonprofits in the San Antonio area and surrounding counties are doing to promote their organizations. Whether they use Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/BigGiveSA), Twitter (@TheBigGiveSA), Pinterest (https://www.pinterest.com/thebiggivesa) or a host of other sites, the internet is the main tool they will use to get the word out.
Many nonprofits have their special events planned to raise money.  You will find a rundown of them here: https://tockify.com/john.burnam.
“Local nonprofits are out there serving our communities 365 days a year,” said Dennis Noll, president and CEO of the San Antonio Area Foundation. “This one day is our opportunity to give them a big thank you by donating to The Big Give S.A.”
Last year, 467 nonprofits participated, with local foundations, corporations and businesses donating $270,000. Donors more than doubled its $1 million goal, raising $2.09 million from 21,361 donations.
The biggest mover behind this year’s growth is a major expansion. Last year, The Big Give S.A. was limited to Bexar County nonprofits. This year’s event is expanding to New Braunfels, Kerrville, Boerne, Seguin, and Fredericksburg, all in a 12-county area.
The 2015 Big Give S.A. is part of the Give Local America 24-hour, crowdfunding event that allows every person in the community to give back to the community with donations as little as $10.
